BSP Ball Valve
At Kinvalve, there are two main kinds of BSP ball valves, including BSPT ball valve and BSPP ball valve. BSPT ball valve and NPT ball valve are similar in the tapered thread portions of the connection.
The main difference is the angle of the thread flanks of these two threads. The angle from root to crest on BSPT is 55° but 60° for NPT.
In view of the similarity of these two kinds of threaded ball valves, you should pay attention to distinguish them.
At Kinvalve, we use the standard gauges to distinguish them and try to keep theese two threaded ball valves away from each other and mark them to avoid mistakes.
In the case of BSPT ball valve, the BSPT threads are made according to the standards of ISO 7, EN10226 or BS 21.
In a BSPP ball valve, the BSPP thread is a type of straight thread, which cannot form a fluid tight seal like the tapered thread BSPT or NPT does. In this situation, soft seal is required to ensure a reliable tight when they are jointed.
BSP and NPT Threads
The threads in our BSPP ball valves are engineered following the standards of ISO 228-1. This standard defines all the features of BSPP including dimensions, tolerances and designation.

Ideally, there are two main types of threaded ball valves.
These types of valves are based on the type and design of threading, and they include the following;
1. Internal and External Threaded Ball Valves
Ball valve with external threads
Ball valve with internal valve
This refers to a classification of thread ball valve based on the type of thread on the connection end of the device.
Ideally, internal threaded is a valve with a screw thread on the inner or concave surface.
An externally threaded ball valve, on the other hand, is one with a screw thread on the outer side of the device.
Both internal and external threaded ball valves are used in varying applications depending on the specific project.
2. Tapered and Parallel Threaded Ball Valve
This classification of threaded ball valves is based on the threading design of the connector ends.
Tapered threaded ball valvesutilize a metal-to-metal seal against the mating threads.
Ideally, you’ll always feel the resistance increasing gradually as you fix the tapered fitting.
In essence, it is the threads that are increasingly interfering with mating threads as you continue to tighten.
In contrast, a parallel threaded ball valve refers to a valve with male threads connector ends parallel to female threads.
The tightness, when fitting this type of valve, doesn’t necessarily generate from the gap between the two opposite threads.
It is used where a pressure-tight joint is attained by compression of the material between male thread end face and socket face.
Is Threaded Ball Valve Durable?
Yes.
Most of the threaded ball valves in the market are relatively durable.
Even so, the overall durability is subject to a host of factors.
For instance, the specific environmental, chemical, and mechanical conditions the device is exposed to determine longevity.

However, it depends on the type of type and size of threaded ball valve in question.
You can use a manual threading technique known as tapping to rethread the valve.
Notably, though, rethreading increases or decreases the original diameter of the valve depending on internal or external threading.
You can as well try and dress the damaged threaded ball valve using a smooth triangular file.
Additionally, you can braze a metal on the damaged threads and then cut new threads to repair male fitting.
Remarkably, it is advisable to get a new thread ball valve rather than repairing.
Obtaining a new one is cost-effective and guarantees better reliability and efficiency of the tool.
How do you Install Threaded Ball Valve?
Installation of a threaded ball valve plays an integral role in determining its reliability and functionality.
Improper installation can lead to damage of the valve hence leading to malfunctioning of fluid control systems.
Here is a step-by-step process of proper installation of this device;
· Cleaning
Always ensure that you clean the threaded ball valve appropriately once you unwrap it from the package.
Remove all the kinds of objects and debris accordingly.
At this point, you also need to remove valve end caps, if any.
Examine the valve ports and seating surfaces for cleanliness.
· Align Connecting Pipes
Ensure the connecting pipes from both ends of the valve are properly aligned.
Support the valve to avert unnecessary stresses induced by the connecting pipes.
Typically, most threaded ball valve units can hardly absorb any gaps.
Thus, any form of distortion in pipes tend to influence valve functionality and tightness of the connection.
While at it, ensure you confirm that the valve rating is compatible with the projected service conditions.
Operate the threaded ball valve from a fully open to a closed position.
· Apply Sealant on Connection Ends
Ensure to use recommended thread sealants when making up connections.
Additionally, follow the sealant’s manufacturer directions for proper use.
However, you should install it on the pipe and not necessarily on the valve.
· Secure the Valve
Now it’s time to tighten the ball valve on the respective pipe connector ends.
But you must be cautious enough not to over-tighten the valve on the pipe.
If it is over-tighten, there is a possibility of distorting the internal ball valve parts, torque transmission, or stress into the body joint.
While at it, you also need to take caution never to loosen the body to tailpiece connection.
This may happen as a result of reverse rotation or counter-rotation during alignment or installation.
Such loosening can easily compromise body to tailpiece sealing.
· Confirm Whether Installation Process is Correct
After you complete the installation process, ensure you counter-check to verify the packing nut’s tightness after installation.
It is the ideal way to be confident of the threaded ball valve’s high performance.
