One-Piece-Ball-Valve

One Piece Ball Valve

This construction made it to be robust and less leaking rate compared to other constructions of 2 piece ball valve and 3 piece ball valve.

One piece ball valve is designed to be small bore ball valve, usually, its diameter ranges from 1/4inch to 4 inches (DN8 – DN100).

Kinvalve one piece ball valve design tends to be a relatively inexpensive style and they are always floating ball valves with a reduced bore(also called a standard port).

Single piece ball valve sometimes causes disadvantage. It’s difficult for maintenance without disturbing the main pipeline and it’s impossible to get repaired to replace the seats and seals. When the 1pc ball valves are damaged, you can do nothing but throw them away.

Based on the simplest structure, Kinvalve has the largest capacity to manufacture over 20,000 pieces of finished 1pc ball valves a day. And we have about 20% ready stock finished and semi-finished this kind of ball valve to satisfy customer’s normal order quantity.

Kinvalve can supply one piece ball valve in different kinds of round bar stock and hexagon bodies, available in Stainless steel and carbon steel.

In order to adapt to your different applications, Kinvalve also provides you casting body and forged body to match low pressure and high pressure conditions.

The maximum pressure can reach 2000psi or 900lb. Please send us your specific requirements to get a suitable configuration and the most cost-efficient quotation.

Of course, the ball valve’s working pressure is also depending on the working temperature of your applications. At Kinvalve, one piece WOG ball valve is common.

Our regular one piece ball valve in cast steel is normally a 1000WOG rating ball valve. W in WOG stands for water, O for oil, and G for gas. And it is the non-shock pressure rating for valves at an environmental temperature.

While our 1 piece ball valve is made of a forged body, it can withstand the pressure rating of up to 2000PSI WOG. But forged 1pc ball valve with high pressure will not be bigger than 2inches in size.

At Kinvalve, forged steel 1 piece ball valve is designed to be a threaded ball valve. And Kinvalve offers you the cast steel body available in a flanged ball valve or threaded ball valve.

You can easily get nearly any type of one piece ball valve from Kinvalve actuated to your applications. Contact our actuation specialists to get a free quote now!

1 Piece Ball Valve: The Ultimate FAQ Guide

This guide covers all the fundamental questions you may have about 1 piece ball valves.

So, if you want to learn more about 1 piece ball valves, read this guide.

What is a 1 Piece Ball Valve?

Figure 1 1-Piece Ball Valve

Figure 1 1-Piece Ball Valve

The 1 piece ball valve is a ball valve made out of a single body piece.

The single body piece design makes it more robust and cost-friendly than the 2 piece ball valve and 3 piece ball valves.

A smaller ball, usually called a reduced bore, is used in the 1 piece because of the one-piece body. The 1 piece ball bore is also smaller than the pipe by one size and reduces media flow through the valve.

The distinguishing features of the 1 piece ball valve from the other variants are:-

  • Blow out proof stems
  • Standard/Reduced port ball valve
  • Sizes range from 0.5’’ to 2’’
  • They are suitable for standard uses because of their 1000 Psi pressure ratings.
  • They have components made from durable materials such as PTFE, making them suitable for chemical and high heat applications.
  • They also have threaded ports which make them easily connected to standard piping systems.

Essentially, it is a ball valve with two ports, an inlet, an outlet, and a ball with a bore on a single body cast.

A manual hand lever is used to operate the 1 piece ball valve to turn the ball.

What are the Components of 1 Piece Ball Valves?

The main parts of 1 piece ball valve include:

Handle

This component is used to shut off flow through the 1 piece ball valve’s inlet and outlet. When it is perpendicular to the piping system, the ball valve remains closed.

When it is in a similar direction as the pipes, the ball valve is open.

Ball

The component has a bore in it. It is considered open when it is parallel to the piping and closed when perpendicular. Handle makes it possible to turn the ball in various positions.

Body

This pressure vessel is a casting that houses the ball and other components of the 1 piece ball valve.

Seat

It refers to a disc-shaped component that forms a seal between the ball and the 1 piece ball valve body.

The locking, the thrust washer, the gasket, the stem nut, and the cap are other components.

What Materials are 1 Piece Ball Valves Made of?

The components of the 1 piece ball valve are made from the following materials:-

  1. Handle, locking, thrust washer, and stem nut are all made from stainless steel (SUS304).
  2. Cap, body, and ball are also made from Stainless steel SA-351 CF8 or brass.

Stainless steel is inert, corrosion-resistant, and durable but relatively expensive compared to brass. It is stronger and more ductile than other alloys, hence the best option.

  • Seats is made using Reinforced Polytetrafluoroethylenes, i.e., RPTFE.
  1. Stem packing comprise of PTFE (Teflon), NBR, or FKM materials. These materials are water-resistant, hence perfect for the application.
  2. The handle has a cover that is made of plastic.

How do 1 Piece Ball Valves Compare to 2 Piece Ball Valves?

1 piece ball valves have a single cast body and a reduced bore, making them the least expensive ball valves. Their advantages are reduced initial costs and leakage paths.

The two-piece ball valves, on the other hand, have one body joint that connects two pieces. The first piece contains the body and an end connection, and the other has the other end connection and holds the trim.

Hence technically, an additional leakage path when compared to a 1 piece design.

The 2 piece design has a wider variety of connection types and sizes compared to 1 piece designs. Two-piece ball valves are the most common industrial ball valve design, especially for flanged connections.

You should select a 1 piece design compatible with your pressure, temperature, and flow rates. Especially if you do not have specific registration, test, or design standards to meet.

What are the Benefits of 1 Piece Ball Valves?

Here are some of the advantages of 1 piece ball valves:

  • They are fairly inexpensive compared to three-piece and two-piece ball valves.
  • They are solid, thus less prone to problems such as leakages. This is mainly because of their solid cast body design.
  • They are good for non-demanding and light-duty applications.
  • They are easy to use. You can install 1 piece ball valves relatively fast. The handle makes them easy to open or to shut off.
  • They are versatile as you can use them in a vast array of applications.
  • They are durable. Our 1 piece ball valves guarantee long service life in the appropriate applications. They are corrosion-resistant and less likely to be damaged by such.

How does 1 Piece Ball Valve Compare to 3 Piece Ball Valve?

Figure 3 1-Piece Ball Valve vs. 3-Piece Ball Valve

Figure 3 1-Piece Ball Valve vs. 3-Piece Ball Valve

The comparison between 1 and 3 piece ball valves can be drawn from the flow rates they can support. However, a few structural differences can be noticed, e.g.:-

The 3 piece ball valve body consists of three separate pieces bolted together, i.e., the body and two ends. The pieces are bolted together, and you can take out both ends. Additionally, the 3 piece is significantly heavier than the 1 piece.

After using it for an application, you can remove the middle part of the body, including the ball and seal. This makes it easy to clean or repair without affecting or disassembling the fixed piping. Thus, it is applicable with fixed piping systems requiring more frequent specialty maintenance.

The 1 piece, on the other hand, has a smaller body and port than the 3 piece because it is one piece. This slightly reduced size, weight, and port make it ideal for budget projects that do not require a full flow.

Since the body is one small piece, the standard port is slightly smaller than the full port. The advantage of the 1 piece is increased durability in many applications. This is perfect for most applications that go for a slightly reduced flow rate.

Both ball valves are made from the same material and are ready for action with similar casting bodies. Additionally, they work at a working pressure of 1000 Psi and come with a locking handle and blowout-proof stems.

As the size changes with each piece, it also adds more features. This lets you choose the most economical size for your project.

How do 1 Piece Ball Valves Work?

The working principle of the 1 piece ball valve is quite simple. Rotate the handle to an axis perpendicular to the piping to block flow.

To unblock flow, rotate the handle until it is at a parallel axis to the piping.

Where can you Use 1 Piece Ball Valve?

Here are some of the applications of 1 piece ball valve:

Water Storage Facilities

You can use 1 piece ball valves to shut off, and open water flows from reservoirs and achieve efficient water control. Using one will help you prevent water shortages on the supply end and inundation due to spillage.

Gas lines

1 piece ball valves have a single and compact body, which makes them very impervious. This Mean you can use them to control gas flow without worrying about its contamination by outside elements.

SIL 3 Operations

An advantage of using 1 piece ball valves is that you can use them to cut off media fast and efficiently.

SIL operations are critical operations that may require emergency shut-off.

The easily turn 1 piece ball valve handles making them ideal for applications that may require a quick response.

Pressure Relief Applications

You can employ a 1 piece ball valve to give pressure relief to your piping lines. Your pipelines may often have high and uncontrollable levels of pressure.

A 1 piece ball valve will provide you an outlet for such.

How do you Maintain 1 Piece Ball Valves?

To enhance the operability and service life of your 1 piece ball valve, you should conduct frequent inspections.

Remember to keep a record as you inspect them at least once every 100 cycles.

Be on the lookout for malfunctions that may cause leakages and fix them as soon as possible.

When the handle and ball start to become hard to turn, you should consider lubricating them.

You can do this before connecting the 1 piece ball valve to the piping system or do it afterward.

Clean the 1 piece ball valve frequently. Debris and contaminants may cause valve failure.

Use covers and filters where appropriate and conduct a flush before shutting down your systems. This will reduce the build-up of debris and contaminants.

This is a preventive maintenance routine that helps in ensuring that the 1 piece ball valve has long service life.

The 1 piece ball valves are subject to wear. Wear of the seals may cause loosening and subsequently cause leakages. You should check and tighten connection ends often.

After conducting any maintenance routine on the valve, reinstall it according to manual guidelines. Finally, maintenance comprises of replacement of damaged or worn parts of the 1 piece ball valve.

Some processes may require full or partial disassembly. Do this as per the instructions provided in the manual.

What are the Disadvantages of 1 Piece Ball Valves?

  1. 1 piece ball valves have bad throttling qualities. Therefore, you cannot use them in applications that involve sustained throttle levels.
  2. Unfortunately, you cannot use 1 piece ball valves to regulate all kinds of fluids.

Fluids with solid or fibre suspensions such as flurries may cause the ball to jam when particles become trapped. This will cause the ball valve to become stuck or damaged.

  • 1 piece ball valves are difficult to clean and repair compared to the two-piece and three-piece ball valves. This is because of their single cast body design.
  1. It is very easy and quick to close and open the 1 piece ball valve. While it’s an advantage, this may cause a surge in pressure and water hammer.
  2. The hollow ball component may trap controlled media. This may cause problems such as cracks in the long run.

What are the Temperature and Pressure Ratings for 1 Piece Ball Valves?

The pressure rating for 1 piece ball valves is 1000psi. This makes it well suited for standard applications.

Similarly, the temperature rating for 1 piece ball valves is -15° Celsius to 200° Celsius. All pressure and temperature ratings are approved and certified.
