Cryogenic Ball Valve

Kinvalve cryogenic ball valves provide reliable and safe shutoff with special designs and consturction at cryogenic temperatures.

Our cryogenic ball valves can be divided into many categories to meet your multiple needs. Generally speaking, we can provide 2-piece and 3-piece construction ball valves in both forged and cast stainless steel. You also can choose the cryogenic ball valves from the floating ball or trunnion ball design. And the soft seat and metal seats are your options as well.

In order to serve severe industries safely and efficiently, all the cryogenic ball valves should be designed and tested with international standards, such as API 6D, ASME B16.34, BS5351, ISO17292 as well as API598, EN12266 etc. Among these design standards, you can find some common characteristics of cryogenic ball valves.

The most obvious feature you can see is the extended valve stems. This design can help effectively isolate the effects of the cryogenic fluid on the valve stem packing sealing performance as well as the operating mechanism of cryogenic ball valves.

Another function of the extended valve stem design is that the extension can accommodate special insulation materials to reduce the cold energy loss of the medium fluid.

One thing to note is that you can choose a suitable extended stem length based on the temperature of the fluid and on-site installation conditions.

If you carefully observe, you can also find that this extended valve stem is designed as an integral part of the valve body, and welding to the valve body is not allowed.

Another point is that you also need to consider selecting the appropriate wall thickness of the valve stem.

In this way, the extended stem can withstand the bending stresses generated by low temperature and pressure during operation.

Due to its special purpose and suitable medium, our cryogenic ball valves will have fire-safe and anti-static designs based on API607.

Almost all procurement customers will require this type of low-temperature ball valve to undergo degreasing treatment.

Compared to other types of cryogenic valves, the advantage of cryogenic ball valves lies in better shutoff performance and lower cost. The cryogenic ball valve also has better flow characteristics and a relatively small pressure difference.

Types of Cryogenic Ball Valves

We can provide a variety of low -temperature ball valves to meet your different needs. In addition to the extended valve stem, in fact, there is no difference between the cryogenic ball valve and other ball valves. You can still have other superior characteristics, such as low leakage, Live-loading packing, DBB etc.

At Kinvalve, cryogenic ball valves can be divided into two types: floating ball type and trunnion ball type. In terms of materials, you can choose stainless steel valve bodies, carbon steel valve bodies, and other special alloy materials. Regarding sealing materials, elastomer seals and metal seals are both your options.

In a word, you can customize everything you want to fit your demands.

Threaded Cryogenic Ball Valve, Floating Ball

Threaded cryogenic ball valves are the commonest ones in the market. Generally, you have two types to choose. One is the cast steel body; the other type is forged body. In terms of valve body structure, you can choose the more common 2pc and 3pc structure.

  • Flanged-Cryogenic-Ball-Valve
Flanged Cryogenic Ball Valve, Floating Ball

Flanged cryogenic ball valves are floating ball design, with 2pc or 3pc bodies which can be casting or forged types. In this series, soft seals are not the only option, and metal seals can also be an alternative for higher temperature or abrasive/corrosive applications.

  • Trunnion-Cryogenic-Ball-Valve
Trunnion Cryogenic Ball Valve, Casting/Forged Body

Trunnion ball valves provide wider adaptability. They can be applied to higher temperature, higher pressure, smaller torque, as well as corrosion and wear resistance. But you have to pay a higher cost. Casted or forged 2p and 3p construction for your options.

Applications

Applications

In some industrial processes, cryogenic temperature operations can yield many benefits. For example, gases can be turned into liquids at cryogenic temperatures, compressing their volume for easy storage and transportation. Some media also have a long shelf life at low temperatures. The cryogenic ball valves are widely used in these industrial facilities.

Kinvalve cryogenic ball valve is widely found in applications including transportation, storage, gas production, cryogenic pumps, pipelines/low-pressure trailers, terminal unloading stations, gas systems, air separation plants, lyophilization systems, food carriers, LNG storage, LPG trailers, and so much more.

Cryogenic Ball Valve

A cryogenic ball valve is a special type of ball valve designed with a characteristic ball that enables it to control the flow of liquids in extremely cold applications.

3 PC Cryogenic Ball Valves

They entail the main body that is interconnected with two distinct connectors through different ports. Similarly, they comprise of a ball that enables them to perform a variety of functions. As a result, they are applicable in many areas. It should also be noted that they have a high initial cost as compared to other types of ball valves. Still, they are cheaper to maintain on a long-term basis.

Additionally, these valves are cost-effective and easy to clean

High-Pressure Cryogenic Ball Valves

They are designed to withstand extreme working pressures. As such, they perform various position functions such as full close as well as full open position functions.

Cryogenic 3-Way Ball Valve

As opposed to other types of ball valves, they comprise of three distinct connectors that are interconnected to the main body through three different ports. As such, the connectors serve as inlets and outlets.

One of them might serve as an inlet whilst the other two serve as outlets or vice versa. The main advantages of these types of ball valves is that they are cheap as well as easy to use.

Cryogenic Actuated Ball Valve

These are designed with an actuator that significantly helps in the control of the flow of liquids. As a result, they are suitable for storage, production, and transportation of liquids. In addition, they also have steam seal advantages such as providing the safety of liquids.

Cryogenic Floating Ball Valves

Their working principle depends on a seating mechanism. As such, they comprise a characteristic ball that is either forced against the metal seal or allowed to move freely as a result of a change in pressure.

The change in pressure exerted in the chamber is usually caused by the opening and closure of the valves. Cryogenic floating ball valves are normally applied in a variety of cryogenic applications due to the numerous features that suit them for different functions.

Cryogenic Trunnion Ball Valve

They significantly aid in sanctioning or stopping the flow of liquids. Likewise, they consist of a characteristic ball that helps them sustain a high-pressure working environment.

As opposed to floating ball valves, the ball in trunnion ball valves is usually connected to two other parts. In this case, it is connected to both the shaft and the stem at different points.

Parts of Cryogenic Ball Valves Design

Stem: The stem serves as a system that provides a bridge between the ball and the external system where functions such as external control are executed.

Valve Body: The valve body provides an area where other parts such as the connectors are mounted. Similarly, it should be noted that the valve body is considered the primary part of cryogenic ball valves. Remember, other parts are removable and connected to it.

Rotary Ball:  It allows the passage of liquid/ gaseous media thus significantly helping in controlling the flow of liquid/gases that passes through them.

Seats: They are significant in the general functioning of the valves in that they initiate a seating mechanism of functioning.

Bonnet: This is the topmost part of the cryogenic ball valve. The bonnet therefore protects the internal components of the valve.

How Cryogenic Ball Valves Work

The goal of ball valves is to control the flow of liquids passing through the pipes either by closing or opening the valves. To achieve this, the ball is rotated at various angles.

For instance, it can be rotated 90 degrees away from the direction of flow of liquids thus resulting in closure of valves. Furthermore, they also have seats that aid in exerting pressure thus controlling the sealing mechanism.
